Tastykakes have had their fair share of history in Philly. Founders Philip Baur and Hebert Morris brought the first snack cakes (sold at 10 cents a piece) to market in 1914. The cakes were such a hit the company's tiny operations grew incredibly quickly. By the end of its first year, sales had reached $300,000. Up until the 1940s, these local treats were only distributed across Pennsylvania by horse! In fact, Tastykakes' trademark horse and wagon became a familiar sight on the streets of Philly and were instrumental in the company's success.
