Purple Passionfruit Box

The passion fruit is a pepo, a type of berry, round to oval, either yellow or dark purple at maturity, with a soft to firm, juicy interior filled with numerous seeds. This small pinkish purple variety is sweet with a touch of sour. It’s ripe/ready to eat when the shell becomes wrinkly all over! The fruit is both eaten and juiced; passion fruit juice is often added to other fruit juices to enhance aroma. Add passionfruit to your favorite smoothie or spread on top of some papaya for an ultimate combination!

To say that Rane Roatta has a passion for tropical Florida fruits would be an understatement. He started selling fruit at Miami farmers markets nearly a decade ago, picking up fruit from local farms on his bicycle. Nowadays, Roatta and partner Edelle Schlegel work with hundreds of local Miami growers, and they even own their own seven-acre farm to experiment with new varieties.
