Economy Candy
NYC's Legendary Candy Shop Since 1937
Economy Candy started off as a shoe and hat repair shop with a pushcart outside which sold candy. But when the Depression hit the candy started outselling the shoes, so in 1937 Economy Candy was born. When Morris Cohen and his brother-in-law returned from WWII they took over the family business and expanded its offerings. Cohen’s son, Jerry, and Jerry’s wife, Ilene, joined the business full-time in the ‘80s. Jerry and Ilene ran the business together for over 30 years and have now passed the reins to their son Mitchell and his wife, Skye.
Economy Candy is a neighborhood staple on the Lower East Side as well as national purveyor of sweetness and joy. Locals and tourists alike flock to Economy Candy to stock up on their favorites. With over 2,000 varieties of candy, chocolate, dried fruits and nuts on offer, there’s something for everyone!
