Eastern Nova Scotia Salmon
Rich and moist, this is Barney Greengrass’ most popular salmon! This superior salmon is either from Eastern Canada, Norway, or sometimes the Faroe Islands. It’s wood smoked for a slightly salty yet mild taste, with a texture that is pure velvet. On average one pound is approximately 16 slices.
When Barney Greengrass first opened his smoked fish (“appetizing”) store in Harlem in 1908, his mission was simple: to create a “food store for those who demand the best.” In 1929 Barney moved his much-beloved shop to its present home on the Upper West Side. His customers followed, his popularity grew, and soon all of New York knew him as “The Sturgeon King.” Two generations later, Barney Greengrass continues to cater to “those who demand the best,” under the meticulous guidance of Barney’s grandson, Gary. In addition to looking much the same as it did back in Barney’s day, the iconic shop and restaurant has become a one-of-a-kind destination for smoked fish and deli lovers from across the globe. The Greengrass family’s commitment to serving the finest classic New York fare has earned Barney Greengrass countless accolades, including an American Classic Award from the James Beard Foundation in 2006.
