Philippe The Original French Dip
The Birthplace of the French Dip
The legend of the au jus soaked wonder known as the French Dip got its start in Los Angeles over 100 years ago. Philippe owner Philippe Mathieu accidentally dropped a sliced roll into the hot juice filled roasting pan of a beef sandwich he was preparing. The patron, a policeman, said he'd take the sandwich anyway sparking a trend that has become a menu go-to the world over.
While the city around it may have changed, Philippe's is still family owned and serving up their legendary French Dip sandwiches slathered with their trademark spicy mustard for all to enjoy.
