Domenico DeMarco, or "Dom," opened Di Fara Pizza in 1965 after emigrating to Brooklyn from the province of Caserta in Italy. Before opening his pizzeria, Dom spent time working on a Huntington farm until someone told him about a "good spot" on Avenue J in Brooklyn's Midwood neighborhood. That "good spot" is now known as the best pizzeria in New York City. While at times there's hour (or more) wait to get a slice, the consensus is that the pilgrimage is more than worth it.
These New York–style and Sicilian pizzas are perfectly crisp and made with the perfect ratio of ingredients and just the right amount of toppings. Each pie is topped with a tangy tomato sauce and a three-cheese blend of fresh buffalo mozzarella, fior di latte, and Parmigiano-Reggiano, and finished with scissor-cut basil from DeMarco's own garden. Pretty much every paper, major food critic, and the Zagat Survey has named Di Fara New York's very best pizzeria. Dom sadly passed away in 2022, but his children continue to carry on his legacy. And now, for the first time ever, you can skip the voyage and have these iconic pizzas delivered right to your door!
