Azucar was founded in the heart of Miami’s historic Little Havana neighborhood in 2011, inspired by South Florida’s diverse cultures, the warm subtropical climate, and a passion for sabor Latino.
Founder Suzy Batlle left her career as a banker to make ice cream just in the style of her abuela, and each day she churns out a wide variety of ice creams and sorbets in flavors inspired by her bustling Cuban neighborhood: cafe con leche, Key lime, flan, mamey, guava, mango, coconut, and more depending on what local fruits are in season. They’re all made with fresh local ingredients, like the ruby red mamey, which is bought at a fruit stand down the street. Don’t miss the signature Abuela Maria, a blend of vanilla ice cream, fresh mamey chunks, cream cheese, guava marmalade and Goya Maria crackers, an ode to Abuela herself.
