Growing up in small-town Arkansas, Virginia Rankin spent countless hours watching her beloved grandmother, Mammaw Mert, bake Southern cakes in her kitchen, and she taught Virginia to bake as soon as she was old enough. So when Virginia decided to open her very own baking studio in 1997, she named it after Mert. At Mert’s Cakes, she’s baking up classic Southern cakes inspired by her grandmother’s old-fashioned recipes, and her wedding cakes are among the most in-demand in town.
