Primo's Donuts
LA’s Family-Run Donut Icon Since 1956
Primo’s Donuts is a Los Angeles icon, one of its most beloved and longest-running donut shops. Back in 1956, Ralph and Celia Primo were driving down LA’s Sawtelle Blvd. after a disappointing day of house hunting. Their three year old son, Ralph Jr., spotted a strip mall storefront with a giant plywood donut on top and began shouting, “Donut! Donut!” Ralph pulled over, went inside, and asked the owner, Paul Hodges, for a part-time summer job. Ralph was surprised to learn that the shop was actually for sale, and he made the decision to buy it on the spot, with a goal of reselling it after a year to buy a new house.
As you’ve probably figured out, they didn’t sell it after a year! Ralph Jr. grew up to take over the shop, and he still runs it to this day along with his parents and children. Primo’s remains one of LA’s finest old-school donut shops, and in 2021 a second location opened near UCLA in Westwood Village. From their legendary buttermilk bars to cinnamon twists to classic cake donuts, these have consistently been rated some of the best donuts in America, and now they’re being delivered straight to your door!
