It all started with “Papu.” Janie's Cakes founder Janie Clapp learned the art of baking from her great-grandmother, known to the family as "Papu," who did very little measuring, instead operating on a whole lot of instinct. While that worked well for her great-grandmother, Janie decided to further her education in a more formal manner by attending the Culinary Institute of America in New York, before the pull of home in Tyler, Texas was too strong to resist. Janie decided to open a bakery that was soon known all over town, but it didn't take long before word spread nationwide about their house speciality: the pound cake. Using real deal ingredients- farm-fresh eggs, creamery butter, pure cane sugar and absolutely no preservatives- Janie's is continuing the produce what many, including Oprah, believe to be the best pound cake in the country.
