Fletcher's Original Corny Dogs
The Original Corny Dog, Since 1942
If you’ve ever eaten a corn dog — the unofficial food of any state fair — you can thank Fletcher’s Original Corny Dogs. The classic treat of a hot dog dunked in cornmeal batter and deep fried until golden brown and delicious was invented in Dallas back in 1942 by brothers Neil & Carl Fletcher, who debuted their creation to heaps of praise at that year’s State Fair of Texas.
As the story goes, the two brothers were inspired by a local baker who specialized in a time-consuming and complicated dish of hot dogs baked in cornmeal in the shape of an ear of corn. When they tried out the recipe, they realized that by spearing the hot dogs on a stick and deep-frying them, not only did it majorly cut down on the time and effort, it also made it perfect for walking around.
All these years later, Fletcher’s is still serving up their iconic Corny Dogs at the State Fair of Texas every year, and the company is still owned by the Fletcher family. These dogs are all hand-dipped and fresh-fried, and from classic beef & pork Corny Dogs to turkey Corny Dogs to even veggie Corny Dogs, the Original Corny Dog is shipping nationwide!
